VERO BEACH, Fla. -- A 40-year-old Vero Beach woman has died after being struck by a car while she was walking.
Florida Highway Patrol says Dawn Erin Axiotis was walking on the grass shoulder of Old Dixie Highway near 12th Street SW in Vero Beach just after noon Monday, when, for unknown reasons, a 2004 Toyota Camry driven by an 83-year-old Vero Beach man, traveled off the roadway and struck her.
Axiotis was transported to Lawnwood Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
FHP says the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
