9/11 fire truck in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Rescue 4, from the New York City Fire Department. was on display Wednesday outside the Indian River Mall.

It's the only surviving piece of equipment that was dispatched on 9/11.  The 9 men who climbed on board that day all died in the attacks.

The truck had some repairs made and now travels the country for the Remembrance Rescue Project ,  (bitly link: http://bit.ly/HWnyhW) which raises money for the children of fallen firefighters.

The truck's mission is to remember, honor and educate.

"To remember all the fallen of the 9/11 attacks and to honor them.  And to educate the youth who didn't have an idea of what happened on 9/11," said Harry Jones with Brevard Fire-Rescue.

The truck is being housed by Brevard County Fire-Rescue this week.  It will eventually be placed in a firefighter museum later this year.
