Trappers catch 'nuisance' alligators believed responsible for deaths of two dogs

SEBASTIAN, Fla. - Two alligators believed to be responsible for the deaths of two neighborhood dogs have been caught by trappers, according to the Sebastian Police Department.

Licensed alligator trappers with the State Nuisance Alligator Program - a program through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission - caught two substantially-sized alligators in Hardee Park Lake area.

On Sunday, trappers pulled a 9'9 ft alligator along with a 6'10 ft alligator from the lake.

Sebastian police believe these two alligators are responsible for the deaths of two dogs in the area and they say because of their size they fall within the guidelines of what is deemed a nuisance to the public.

Police caution the public to never feed alligators and caution pet owners from letting their animals roam unsecured by waterways.
