Sebastian police investigating two attempted child abductions

SEBASTIAN, Fla - Police are investigating two suspicious incidents of attempted child abduction, according to a Sebastian Police Department media release.

Police responded on Thursday to the 500 block of Wimbrow Drive after a parent reported a suspicious incident that happened the day before. The parent told police that his 10-year-old daughter was riding her bicycle home from Sebastian Elementary when a black male, driving an unknown model two-door royal-blue sedan, pulled up next to her and said he was a police officer and that she needed to get into his car, the release said.

The man was holding a silver star badge that appeared toy like, according to the child.

When the girl refused, the subject left the area in an unknown direction.

Friday afternoon police received a second complaint from the mother of a 9-year-old who said that a black male approached the child from the parent pickup line area at Sebastian Elementary School. He asked her to get into his car and pointed his finger and thumb as if to imitate a gun.

The child said the man was wearing a red, white and blue striped shirt and beige pants. She said he was driving a navy blue four-door medium-size sedan. The girl said she believed the vehicle had an out-of-state tag with a "K" as the first letter. The man drove north on Powerline Road.

Police are asking the public to be vigilant and to call 911 if they see any suspicious person, vehicle or act.
