Pedestrian killed by train in north Indian River County

A 60-year-old Sebastian man was killed by a train at the Roseland Road crossing in north Indian River County Monday night.

According to Sgt. Thom Raulen, spokesman for the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, the train conductor saw the man walk across the tracks, stand there and then jump in front of the train. Raulen said the accident is being considered a suicide.

The accident happened about 2 a.m. Monday night. The crossing was closed following the accident and reopened at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
