Paul Hagenmaier, Sebastian High School student: Memorial set for teen killed in dirt bike accident

FELLSMERE — Friends and family members will gather today at 6 p.m. to remember a Sebastian River High School student killed Sunday during a dirt bike accident at the Mesa Park Motorsports Complex.

Paul Hagenmaier wrecked about 2 p.m. Sunday while riding at the complex off County Road 512 just west of Interstate 95, Indian River County Fire Rescue officials said. Paramedics flew Hagenmaier to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where he died Monday, Assistant Fire Chief Brian Burkeen said.

A Facebook page set up for Hagenmaier announced a 6 p.m. Wednesday memorial service at Mesa Park. The page is called "Prayers for Paul Hagenmaier."

Hagenmaier's family, Mesa Park officials and high school administrators could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Fellsmere Police Sgt. Carlos Acevedo said the department is waiting on a report from the State Medical Examiner's Office on the cause of Hagenmaier's death before they produce their own report on the accident. Witnesses were interviewed Sunday, but Acevedo would not comment on their accounts.

Acevedo said he couldn't recall the last time police responded to Mesa Park for a biker accident.

Mesa Park is a former concert and event venue that was transformed a couple of years ago into a Motocross racing park with a 1.1-mile dirt track, according to its Facebook page. Owner Theresa Duke would not comment Tuesday and deferred questions to the park's promoter, who could not be reached for comment.

Mesa Park posted a message on its Facebook page about Hagenmaier's death.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Paul Hagenmaier during this very difficult time," the message states. "Paul will surely be missed by all and we keep you and your family in our prayers."

No obituary information had been released for Hagenmaier as of late Tuesday.
