Moner Abusalha hadn't been living with his family in Indian River County for quite some time. In fact he had only been in touch with them briefly over the past year.
But growing up in the area, he did have many friends like Trenton Finch.
He couldn't believe the news that the person he used to play video games with was apparently involved in some real life destruction.
The State Department said Friday that Abusalha carried out a suicide bombing in Syria.
"I wouldn't expect him to be the guy to do something like that,” Finch said.
Abusalha went to high school at Sebastian River. "He was a pretty normal kid, Finch said.
Yearbooks show as a freshman, he played on the JV basketball team. “Me and my brother would play basketball with him and I had been to his house a few times,” Finch said.
A sophomore photo in 2009 is the last one from high school.
"I used to hang out with him every once in a while. We would play Xbox and stuff,” said former friend Brandon Taylor.
In the fall of 2010, Abusalha went to Indian River State College, taking classes in the college's physical therapy assistant program. He transferred to Seminole State College in Sanford where he was last registered in 2012.
