Indian River County Fire Rescue battling fast-moving wildfire

UPDATE: The fire has been contained and fire rescue is waiting for a bulldozer to assist crews.

The eastbound lanes in the 500 block of 9th Street SW are blocked because of a fast-moving wildfire in suburban Vero Beach, said Chief Brian Burkeen, spokesman for Indian River County Fire Rescue.

The two-acre fire started around 4 p.m. in a heavily wooded area, he said.

He said the fire is threatening Safari Golf and Games. An employee says one course is closed because of lingering ashes.

Fire rescue says it has 4 engines and 2 brush trucks fighting the fire.
