Head-on crash kills two people in Indian River County at 66th Ave. near 56th Street

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- Traffic is blocked on 66th Avenue near 56th Street where a head-on collision killed 2 adults and seriously injured 2 other adults shortly before 12:30 p.m., officials said.

Those injured were flown by helicopter to trauma centers, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP and Indian River County Fire Rescue are responding to the crash.

The two-lane 66th Avenue is closed several blocks north and south of the crash. Best alternate route is to use the parallel 58th Avenue.

The collision happened near Storm Grove Middle School, which is at 57th Street.

School district officials said bus drivers are advised to use 58th Avenue instead of 66th Avenue to get to Storm Grove Middle. Parents should also use the same route, avoiding 66th Avenue.

Storm Grove Middle dismisses at 2:45 p.m., however parents sometimes arrive early to line up in the parent pick up loop.
