A handgun was found in a student's possession Tuesday at Treasure Coast Elementary.
According to the School District of Indian River County, the student was unaware they were in possession of the gun, staff was immediately notified when it was discovered, and there was no intent to hurt anyone.
The Indian River County Sheriff's Office and the student's parents were contacted and the sheriff's office is conducting an investigation.
