INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - A mother and daughter face animal cruelty charges after investigators discovered a video of dogs attacking a pig on Facebook.
Ashley Ramirez, 21, and her mother Janice, 55, are charged with animal cruelty and fighting or baiting animals.
Indian River County Sheriff's deputies say the women put a pig in their backyard and then encouraged their two dogs to attack.
Detectives say Janice recorded the incident in March and the video was uploaded to Facebook.
The nearly six minute video shows Ashley Ramirez encouraging the dogs to attack the pig.
Investigators say Janice can also be heard encouraging the dogs.
The dogs attacked the pig, breaking its legs and mutilating its face, as the women are heard laughing.
The women told detectives that they were trying to teach the dogs how to hunt but workers with the Humane Society say it's a clear case of animal cruelty.
"It doesn't even remotely begin to meet any type of criteria for sportsman-like behavior. This is not a practice that's condoned. It's not acceptable training methods for animals used in this type of sport, which would be hog hunting," said Ilka Daniel of the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County.
Both women are out of jail and declined comment.
