INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - The sheriff's office in Indian River County is investigating a death that occurred early Tuesday morning.
At about 3:44 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call of a disturbance in the 4300 block of 35th Ave.
The caller advised that a man was "acting crazy" and several people were holding him down.
Deputies arrived and began CPR on the man. He was later transported to the Indian River Medical Center where doctors pronounced his death.
Investigators identified him as 41-year-old Jermaine Benjamin.
Sheriff’s investigators are still working to determine if there was some kind of illegal activity happening at the home last night before they arrived.
The sheriff says deputies have been called to the home Benjamin was visiting last night 70 times in less than 10 years.
"Recently we have seen an increase in the number of drug related calls for service. The potency and quantity of street drugs is often unknown to the user until it is too late. We have had too many young people lose their lives to drugs," said Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar.
The sheriff is still not sure if Benjamin was under the influence of drugs and the department is awaiting toxicology reports.
