NDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Three people aboard a pleasure boat that went missing Monday were found safe on a spoil island in the Indian River Lagoon by the U.S. Coast Guard Tuesday, said officials at the Fort Pierce station.
Bill Rodriguez, Robert Thompson and Robin Frazee launched from the dock near the Riverside Cafe in the first block of Beachland Boulevard in Vero Beach about 6 p.m. Monday, with plans to return for dinner, Vero Beach police said. The 20-foot boat was reported missing to the Coast Guard and police Tuesday morning, officials said.
Sometime Monday night, the boat ran out of gas and floated onto a spoil island, the Coast Guard said. The boaters spent the night on the island, where temperatures dropped below 50 degrees.
Frazee's husband, Mike Frazee, told police he tried calling his wife's cellphone Monday night, but it was out of power, Touchberry said. The other men did not have cellphones, he said.
A Coast Guard boat located the three missing people about 10:10 a.m. Tuesday when they waved life vests from the island, the Coast Guard said. No one was injured.
