LANATANA, Fla. - Parents can get some tips on how to keep their child’s mind sharp while they are out of school this summer.
The first of the last two trainings will be held Thursday night in Lantana.
The Palm Beach County school district says students’ academic retention usually goes backwards a bit during the summer.
Last week, the district's FCAT scores showed a rise in Reading for third grade students but scores dropped in Math this year.
Because of this, the district put these academic guides together for parents. The program goes by grade and gives you unique ideas like using technology and interactive games to sharpen their math and reading skills.
Here are some helpful tips for parents this summer:
- Use technology as a resource
- Provide incentives for them getting time or math problems right
Here are some places offering reading rewards:
- Barnes and Noble reading journal
- Chuck E. Cheese’s free reading reward tokens
The training takes place at Lantana Elementary Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 pm.
