Zedric Joseph: Former Palm Beach Central High School football player arrested in fatal stabbing

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A former Palm Beach Central High School football player is accused of stabbing his child's mother and killing another man last Friday in suburban West Palm Beach.

Zedric Joseph, 23, is currently being held at the Richmond County, Ga., Sheriff's Office, said the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

One of the victims, Ricardy Chery, 23, died from his stab wounds.  Another victim, Vashti Laurore, 23, was treated and later released from St. Mary's Medical Center.

At 12:45 p.m. Friday, crews responded to the 1600 block of Quail Lake Dr.

When firefighters arrived, they found two people injured, according to a news release from Cpt. Albert Borroto with PBCFR.

Laurore was stabbed in the hand, and Chery was stabbed in the body.

Chery had traumatic injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Trauma Center where he later died.  Laurore was also transported to St. Mary’s, but officials said her injuries were not as serious.

Joseph set a variety of football records at Palm Beach Central High School where he graduated in 2009.

The University of Maine football coach released a statement saying: "This is very hard to comprehend. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families and friends connected to this tragedy."

Before the stabbing, Joseph was charged with domestic assault and three other charges in Maine for assaulting a woman at the University of Maine in 2012. He reportedly pled down to a disorderly conduct charge.
