WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A trip to the supermarket for Alexander Abreu and his three daughters took a dangerous turn on Thursday night.
"When I was coming out of the store right here, I heard a couple shots," he said.
Those gunshots, investigators said, were fired inside the Doctors Choice Medical Center building on Forest Hill Boulevard just west of Military Trail before 5 p.m.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the incident began with what was supposed to be a 'business meeting' between a man and a woman who worked at the office.
"The business discussion got very heated," said PBSO Spokesperson Teri Barbera. "The subject pulled out his weapon," she said.
Investigators said Jose Vega, 69, of Lake Worth shot and killed Luis Gonzalez, 38, of Wellington and also wounded Ana Gonzalez, 49, also of Wellington. Vega then shot and killed himself.
"This individual (Vega) knows these two people," said Barbera. "He came in to have a business discussion - a personal business discussion."
Gonzalez, who is said to be the only person of the three involved who actually worked at the facility, was rushed to Delray Medical Center for treatment.
Other employees were interviewed by detectives, but investigators said those workers did not see the incident unfold.
A vehicle was towed away from the crime scene under the close watch of PBSO deputies. It is unclear how or if that vehicle is somehow connected to the shooting.
Investigators are trying to determine why this location was chosen for this 'business discussion'.
The address we showed in our 6pm newscast on the shooting of Luis Gonzalez included video of an address where according to police shooter Luis Vega once lived. To clarify, he has not lived at that address in more than a decade.
