West Palm man accused of housing a pot grow room he learned how to make from the Internet

A West Palm Beach Man was arrested Wednesday after narcotics agents searched his home and found 50 grams of marijuana.

Jorge Ramirez, 46, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $6,000 bond. He is facing charges of possession of cannabis over 20 grams.

According to the arrest report, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Narcotics agents, along with the SWAT team, stormed Ramirez's home in the 800 block of Omar Road in West Palm Beach at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday. Inside, they found a hidden grow room that could only be reached through a small door next to the washing machine.

Agents seized a total of 50 grams of cannabis, the report said. They also found that Ramirez had bypassed the electricity meter to power the grow room.

Further, agents found two purses packed with cash; One with $15,300 in it, the other $1,200.

When confronted, Ramirez said he learned how to make a grow room from the Internet and that the cash was from a house he sold in 2005, according to the report. He added that his wife knew nothing of the grow room.

Ramirez also is facing a charge of possession of a residence for the purpose of manufacturing cannabis with a minor child present. Ramirez's 11-year-old child lived in the house where the grow room was kept.
