Warning period over for drinking ban offenders on Peanut Island

PEANUT ISLAND, Fla. - The Independence Day holiday served as the end of the warning period for offenders of a new ordinance on Peanut Island.

The ordinance bans the consumption of alcohol on the county governed island.

It went into effect on May 18 of this year, but up until the holiday only warnings were written to offenders.

Starting July 4, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office will ticket people who drink on the island.

As for those in the water, or on boats, they are permitted to drink alcoholic beverages.

PBSO had deputies on Peanut Island searching for offenders, while law enforcement agents from several departments patrolled the water on the holiday.

No word yet on how many tickets were written on the holiday.
