WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Millions of florists across the country will be busy delivering flowers for Valentine's Day.
Billions of flowers are imported to the United States through South Florida.
According to the Association of Floral Importers of Florida, 89% of 5 billion flowers are flown into Miami International Airport. Members said that's a high number compared to the 6% flown into Los Angeles.
More than $20,000 worth of flowers were ordered by managers at Flowers To Go in West Palm Beach.
The company has more than 400 orders to deliver before the day is over and extra arrangements inside the store for those who want to walk in.
Members with the AFI of Florida said more than 200,000 people in the U.S. depend on the flower industry. 7,000 live in South Florida which include airline importers and exporters, customs, delivery truck drivers and floral shops workers.
Because the rose is the most popular flower for Valentine's Day, florists prepare months in advance. It takes at least 10 to 14 weeks for a rose bush to bloom.
