Twenty people displaced when sprinklers flood 12 condos in West Palm

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - An apparent fire sprinkler malfunction left about 20 residents of a downtown West Palm Beach condo building temporarily homeless Monday night, according to West Palm Beach Fire Rescue spokesman Allan Ortman.

Firefighters responded to reports of fire alarms going off at 630 South Sapodilla Avenue. Upon arrival at the Courtyards At CityPlace they found "sprinklers had either malfunctioned or had been activated" causing widespread water damage to 12 units on the fourth floor of the condo building,  Ortman said.

"I opened the door and it was completely flooded. I don't know what is going on here. I don't know where I'm going to sleep or where I'm going to stay I'm waiting for a solution," said one resident.

Ortman said that the Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents.

The incident remains under investigation.
