Traffic headaches with Okeechobee Blvd. closure

Crews are closing Okeechobee Boulevard for the next four days at Quadrille Blvd. and drivers are already dealing with traffic headaches.

The closure is for All Aboard Florida construction.

All it takes is a couple of minutes, dozens of barrels and road closed signs, for the traffic nightmare to begin.

"Pretty horrendous," says one driver.

Drivers voicing their frustration at the crucial portion of Okeechobee Boulevard, now closed for the next four days. Crews will be working on the rails for the All Aboard Florida high speed train.

"I don't like it. The people who come to my business don't like it.. The people who visit downtown don't like it," says another driver.

Phoebe Reckseit at Pizza Girls on Clematis St. is worried her business especially when it comes to deliveries.

"It will take longer for our deliveries because of the traffic having to go around. We always have it with the bridge. Now we'll have it with the railroad tracks."

Jim Kovalsky doesn't understand the frustration. He says it's a simple detour getting off Palm Beach Lakes or Southern Boulevard.

"Go in another direction. There's plenty of roads. They're closing one road.

Mayor Jeri Muoio is suggesting drivers carpool or use the Tri-Rail to go to and from work. Anyone can turn in their ticket for a free coffee at the downtown Starbucks or the C Street Cafe.
