Alexander and Jacqueline Berman
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Richard Berman's best friend J. Kaufman spoke to the media Wednesday about the grieving father.
"Obviously words cannot express how upset this man is. He lost everything that was important to him and everything that meant anything. How you recover from that I don't know," Kaufman said.
Berman's ex-wife and children were found dead Monday from an apparent murder-suicide.
"Nothing will make this easy. So all we can do is try to make the world a little better because everything else is really bad right now," Kaufman said.
Kaufman says the grieving father is still in shock, but is not angry with his ex wife.
"Richard was never the kind of person that hated anybody so I don't think he is capable of hating her," Kaufman said.
The family is now planning Alex and Jackie's funeral on Sunday at Temple Beth El.
Kaufman says it is impossible not to ask why the tragedy happened.
"How could anyone understand why a woman would do this to her children? I think any human would have to look and go why," Kaufman said.
Kaufman says Berman will dedicate his life to helping other students at Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
He is asking that instead of flowers, all donations be made to the art school.
