Reports of shots fired near La Quinta Inn in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - West Palm Beach Police responded  to reports of shots fired in the 1900 block of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, just west of I-95, according to West Palm Beach Police.

Police used La Quinta Inn as a staging area as businesses nearby were evacuated as a safety precaution, according to Captain Bernhart, spokesman for the West Palm Beach Police Department.

After searching the hotel and a medical office building next door, police found no sign of a gunman or anyone injured, according to West Palm Beach Police Chief Vincent Damasi.

"It remains one of those strange unsolved issues that sometimes we have to deal with. It's unfortunate but obviously we are glad we don't have anybody here that appears to be injured. My hope is that somebody wasn't driven off and that's still a possibility," said Chief Damasi.

The West Palm Beach Police Department's bomb squad and SWAT team units were on scene investigating.

A perimeter caused traffic delays during rush hour traffic. Eastbound traffic was blocked while police investigated the incident. All lanes are now reopen.
