Ramphy, Jessica Almonte: West Palm Beach couple charged after infant daughter died last June

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A West Palm Beach husband and wife have been charged with leaving with an unattended child in a car for more than 15 minutes following the death of their infant daughter last June.

Investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office say that on June 14, 2013 Ramphy and Jessica Almonte had returned home from grocery shopping around  1 p.m.

Jessica Almonte told deputies that she was on the phone when they got home and she thought her husband had taken their infant daughter out of their Ford Explorer.

The wife told deputies that about a half an hour after they got home, she realized that the baby was not in the house and might be inside the car.

According to PBSO, the baby was then taken from the car and they tried to cool her down.

The family called 911 after the infant appeared to be weak and limp.

Deputies said the baby was taken to Palms West Hospital for heat stroke. The child died six days after she was brought to the hospital.

Both Jessica and Ramphy have now been arrested and were booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
