WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A pedestrian was hit and killed Wednesday night on Haverhill Road in West Palm Beach.
The victim, identified as Shadai N. Collins, 24, of West Palm Beach, had walked into traffic and was standing in the left turning lane, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office report.
At 9:52 p.m., a vehicle was heading southbound at 5951 N. Haverhill Road and began to merge into the turn lane.
The driver didn't see Collins due to low lighting conditions, said the PBSO report.
Investigators said she didn't use a crosswalk that was located a short distance to the south.
Collins was knocked to the pavement and into the northbound left lane. She was then hit by another vehicle that was traveling north in the left lane.
Collins was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center where she later died.
