PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - The Palm Beach Zoo stopped by the NewsChannel 5 studios with a special guest Saturday morning.
The Palm Beach Zoo brought the beautiful black and white Argentine tegu, Tarasca, to the studio. Tegus are at times kept as exotic pets.
Animal trainer Sara Travis explained that, when released into the wild, tegus become an invasive species and can be harmful for the environment. They like to feast on eggs and small animals, and their presence as an invasive species can throw off the ecosystem.
Some events are coming up at the Palm Beach Zoo:
Food Truck Safari
Saturday, Jan. 18
Muchacho the Jaguar's
20th Birthday Bash
Saturday, Jan. 25
