DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach County School District is looking for people to fill dozens of open bus driver positions.
The district is hosting a job fair at Pompey Park in Delray Beach on Thursday that runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Anyone interested in applying needs to have their driver's license with them when they visit the job fair.
Applicants need to be a safe licensed driver for the past five years and have an excellent driving record.
They will need to pass a physical exam and a bus driver training course.
That training course can last as long as six weeks. Every driver needs to have their Commercial Driving License or CDL.
Those who don't have their CDL already will get to go through the training course for free.
The Palm Beach County School District says drivers will make around $12 an hour. The new hires will also get full benefits.
Shane Searchwell is the acting Director of Transportation for the school district and wants people who will be passionate about the job.
"They just need to be enthusiastic about it," he says. "Think about being with children, embrace the fact children are wonderful to work with."
He says all applicants will go through a vetting process before getting behind the wheel.
"We look at everything," Searchwell says. "(Applicants) have to go through a detailed police background check to check their record. If there are any problems there, they will not be around these students."
If someone who is interested in becoming a bus driver can't make it to Pompey Park on Thursday the job posting is online.
