WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Two people were hospitalized and one person was arrested this morning after a car smacked into the side of a moving freight train in downtown West Palm Beach.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Gardenia Avenue and the FEC crossing, which is now back open.
West Palm Beach police spokesman Allan Ortman said one man was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.
Another man was trapped in the car when rescue crews arrived and was also taken to a nearby hospital.
According to Ortman, the driver ran from the scene, but was later caught by police. He was not injured.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident, Ortman said. The driver was arrested.
