WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The body of fallen South Florida Soldier Joseph Schiro has returned home.
Warrant officer Schiro died last week while serving in Afghanistan. This was his sixth trip overseas.
His body returned home Sunday to be greeted by his family, friends and others serving in the Army.
Soldiers lined up to salute Warrant Officer Schiro say his wife rolled down the window of the Hearse to say "thank you" to those paying their respects.
First Lieutenant Chad Copeland of the United States Army says that even though many of these soldiers didn't know Schiro, they still got emotional.
First Lt. Copeland says, "I've been in the Army for over twenty years, and I've lost count of the people that I did know that didn't come back. So when you get the opportunity to respect one in this way, it means something to all of them."
Warrant Officer Schiro will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetery. Funeral services will be held Monday October 15, at Christ Fellowship Church in Royal Palm Beach. Services start at 2 p.m.
