Meeting Wednesday night on controversial road extension

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Neighbors will get a new chance to sound off on a controversial road extension in Palm Beach County but it could be on the taxpayer's dime.

A public meeting will be held tonight for the State Road 7 extension project.

The city of West Palm Beach is using taxpayer money, two thousand dollars worth, to bus residents to tonight's meeting.

West Palm Beach City officials warn this extension that will connect the roadway from its current ending spot to Northlake will cut through the city's water catchment area.

City officials think this could damage the city's water supply.

The extension will run next to the city's Ibis neighborhood and other western community neighborhoods.

The goal of the extension is to ease traffic in the Royal Palm Beach and Acreage areas.

Tonight's public meeting is being held by the Florida Department of Transportation at the South Florida Expo Center starting at 5:30.
