WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- Detectives with the West Palm Beach Police Department are investigating an officer involved shooting.
It happened in the 1300 block of Alpha Street around 10:30 Wednesday night.
Police are being tight lipped about the investigation. Right now, they say at least four officers are on paid leave, but detectives say not all four may have fired shots.
Detectives say dispatchers got a call Wednesday night that a man was headed to Alpha Street, and that he was armed and likely to commit a violent crime.
When police arrived, they found the man by his car.
Capt. David Bernhardt says, "When the officers arrived they encountered the suspect. They tried to communicate with the suspect. They were unsuccessful in having him stop. Moments later, there were some shots fired."
Detectives haven't indicated if the man tried to shoot the officers, but say he did pose a threat which is why officers opened fire.
Police have yet to release the suspect's name. They say he's been taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in critical condition.
The police department is working with the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office in the investigation.
