Man punches clerk, clerk dies from his injuries

A man accused of punching a gas station clerk who later died from his injuries made a first court appearance on Monday. 

According to an arrest report, 51-year-old Richard Solis was caught on surveillance video punching the gas station clerk, 53-year-old MD Nuruzzaman, on May 18.

Officials say the incident happened around 9: 05 p.m. at the Velero Gas Station at 2900 Okeechobee Boulevard in unincorporated West Palm  Beach. 

Detectives arrived at the scene and found store clerck MD Nuruzzaman lying on the floor behind the cash register counter and vomiting.  

Nuruzzaman was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center where his condition deteriorated and he was listed in critical condition. The victim developed a brain bleed and died on May 27. 

According to an autopsy, Nuruzzaman died from a head injury. 

Solis was caught Sunday while trespassing at a nearby plaza. He was wearing the same clothes and knee brace as seen in the surveillance video. 

He remains in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail.
