SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A 46-year-old Lake Worth man was killed Friday evening in the eastbound lanes of Southern Boulevard near Florida's Turnpike, according to Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Margarito Ortiz-Pineda ran into the roadway from the south side into the eastbound lanes of Southern Boulevard in an attempt to retrieve an item from the roadway.
Demarcus Jeudy, of West Palm Beach, was driving at BMW and attempted to avoid the collision by slamming on his brakes and steering to the right.
The victim was pronounced dead on scene, Borroto said.
Authorities did not say what the victim was trying to retrieve from the road.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m.
No charges are pending for the driver of the vehicle.
