Local kids attempt to break world record for World's Largest Swim Lesson

WEST PALM BEAC, Fla. - Some local children may swim their way into the record books!

Today, nearly 100 kids packed the Warren Hawkins aquatic center in Gaines Park. They're trying to break the Guinness world record for the worlds Largest swimming lesson -- a similar scene was played out on the treasure coast at the Sailfish Splash Water park.

The nations top water safety and training organizations across the country Set aside this, as the day to focus on teaching children to swim, to prevent drowning.

"Basically why its so important is that we live in South Florida and were surrounded by water therefor its very very important that we all know how to swim," said Amy Blackman.

Event organizers hope to surpass last years record of over 24-thousand. This year they're expecting 35,000 swimmers once they're all counted.
