Karla Elvir charged with pawned stolen jewelry taken by house cleaners

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A woman whom Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies say pawned stolen jewelry has been arrested.

Deputies say that Karla Elvir received stolen items from her aunt Digna Ruiz who was arrested last week.

Ruiz, according to investigators, ran a house cleaning service along with her sister Leyci Ruiz, Karla Elvir's mother.

Leyci Ruiz was arrested by PBSO in October 2013.

Jewelry and other personal items were stolen from the cleaners' clients in the Delray and Boynton Beach areas, according to PBSO.

Deputies says that Elvir pawned jewelry stolen from clients from March of this year through June.

The pawned items had a total value nearly $20,000, according to PBSO.

Elvir denied stealing the jewelry.

Digna, according to deputies, drove Elvir to pawn shops to sell the items.

Karla Elvir was arrested and charged with grand theft from an elderly person, exploitation of an elderly person, false verification of ownership and dealing in stolen property.
