WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Three people were arrested and charged with staging a traffic accident to obtain insurance money, according to the Florida Division of Insurance Fraud.
West Palm Beach Police said around 10:30 p.m. on May 5, 2010 there was a two-car crash in the vicinity of Roseland Drive and Lake Avenue.
According to police, Jose Begas made a claim for personal injury protection benefits with his insurance company.
Officers said that Begas's claim with Progressive Insurance Company was denied because his policy had lapsed at the time of the crash.
Donicio Ruiz, the driver of the car that Begas was a passenger in, told police that the accident was staged.
The driver of the other car in the crash, Marilu Rodriguez, also confessed the event was staged.
Ruiz and Rodriguez were arrested on Dec. 5 and Begas was arrested on Dec. 9 by the State Division of Insurance Fraud on fraud charges.
All three have been released on bond.
