Trial set for retired tennis player Jennifer Capriati on stalking, battery charges

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Retired tennis player Jennifer Capriati will be tried on battery and stalking charges in December.

Earlier this year, Capriati, 37, pleaded not guilty to the charges after authorities said she punched ex-boyfriend Ivan Brannan while he worked out at a gym on Valentine's Day.

Authorities said she had stalked Brannan for months earlier.

Unless the charges are dropped or a plea deal is reached, jury selection is expected to begin on Tuesday, December 17th.

Capriati, who began her professional career at age 13, is a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

She won a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and later won the French and Australian opens. She also was arrested for shoplifting and marijuana possession in the 1990s.

On Friday, Richard Lubin, Capriati's attorney, declined to speak with reporters after a hearing at the Palm Beach County Courthouse.

Capriati did not attend the hearing.
