Wendy's words have a way of sticking with you. Her mother told NewsChannel 5 that just a week after their family moved into their Lake Worth home, someone broke in.
"I saw the door opened and I thought what happened," Albertina Son said,
Gone was jewelry, some clothes and a computer Wendy uses to do her homework. The family could not believe what happened. But as family members talked about the burglary, Wendy grabbed a marker and put her feelings on paper. Neighbors immediately took Wendy's words to heart.
Mark Parrilla, president of the Genesis Neighborhood Association said, "It took my breath away. I couldn't detect any anger, any bitterness. The only concern was she would pray for these people to have a better life."
The letter has served as a call to action. Parrilla told other neighbors and tonight he will have Wendy read her letter during a neighborhood meeting, hoping the letter inspires others to make good choices and that the burglars who took her stuff will turn their lives around.
"This little 8-year-old girl is wishing you a better life and she will pray for you and God will forgive you if you stop this. It had to become public," Parrilla added.
Wendy will read her letter at the Genesis Neighborhood Association meeting at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Lake Worth at 6 p.m.
Parrilla has started a GoFundMe account to help replace the items the family lost.
