WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a popular ice cream man in South Florida.
A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 21-year-old Frank Collins of Riviera Beach on Thursday. He was convicted in April of first-degree murder.
Authorities say Collins and an unidentified man approached 32-year-old Fresnel Atilus' ice cream truck in December 2008 and opened fire. Authorities say the shooters then jumped into a car driven by 21-year-old Michael Murdock Jr. and fled the scene.
Murdock received a life sentence for first-degree murder in May 2010. But an appeals court later threw out the conviction, and the charges were dropped.
Authorities believe the other shooter fled to the Bahamas.
