Four people rescued from house fire in West Palm Beach

Lightning strike may have caused WPB house fire

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Fire crews are investigating if a lightning strike caused a structure fire off Elder Drive in West Palm Beach early Saturday morning..

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Chief Bruce Young said when crews arrived at 5761 Elder Drive around 3:45 a.m. the house was on fire and there were four people asleep inside.

Firefighters forced their way into the burning home, woke up the residents and got  them out safely.

The fire is now contained and investigators are at the scene probing the cause of the fire, which they suspect may have been caused by a lightning strike.

A lightning strike caused a transformer to blow above the house and knocked out power to homes on the street.

It's unknown if the sparks started the house fire.
