WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Former WPTV NewsChannel 5 meteorologist Rob Lopicola faces up to twenty years in prison when he is sentenced by a Palm Beach County judge on Dec. 20.
The sentencing had been scheduled for Friday, but was delayed earlier this week, a bailiff said.
It was not immediately clear why it had been delayed.
In October, a jury convicted Lopicola of lewd and lascivious conduct and computer pornography after he was accused of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Lopicola testified that he had met the teenager through an advertisement on Craigslist but that he wouldn't have pursued the relationship if he had known the teenager was 15-years-old.
"I do like young guys, late teens and early twenties. I have dated guys in their 30s and 40s as well, but when it comes especially to fantasy, I generally like them younger," Lopicola said during his testimony.
Lopicola said he never met the teenager in person, but the jury felt crude text messages exchanged between them were enough to convict him.
In November, Lopicola accepted a plea deal on a separate count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
