WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Crews extinguished a fire at an auto body shop in West Palm Beach Saturday morning.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue firefighters responded to the 1600 block of Donna Road at 8:03 a.m.

First arriving crews found light smoke coming from the auto body shop and immediately started a fire attack.

Fire Rescue says the business was closed when the fire occurred.

A car battery stored on a metal rack inside the shop is to blame for the fire, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue officials.

PBCFR says the battery shorted when the metal rack above it collapsed down on top of it, causing sparks to shoot out of it.  Those sparks ignited cardboard boxes stored nearby, PBCFR says.

No injuries were reported. Two vehicles inside the shop were damaged by fire. The total amount of damage is estimated at $30,000.
