Ernest Cantu: Sheriff's office identifies deputy involved in deadly shooting of Tinoris Williams

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has identified the deputy involved in the deadly shooting of Tinoris Williams.

Deputy Sheriff Ernest Cantu shot Williams on Monday, April 7.

Deputies responded to an alarm/burglary call in the 4800 block of Orleans Court just after 1:00 p.m.

The homeowner advised she had been burglarized and described a black male, wearing khaki shorts, no shirt, with dreads running from the area.

A short time later deputy Cantu spotted what appeared to be the suspect in an abandoned apartment next door to the burglarized home.

When Cantu attempted to make contact, the suspect, Tinoris Williams, attacked him, PBSO says.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, there was a violent struggle over the deputy's firearm and the deputy discharged his weapon, striking Williams in the head at close range.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cantu has been with PBSO since 2005.

He has been placed on administrative leave which is standard department protocol.
