Ana Mendez Miguel and Mynor Garcia Velasquez have reason to celebrate. Their baby was the first born at St. Mary's Medical Center in 2013.
At 2:38 a.m. New Year's Day, Eliel Abraham Garcia was born at St Mary's Medical Center.
A nurse helped to translate the mother's joy.
"She feels very proud of him to be the first baby and very happy," she said.
Labor began just before midnight for the baby that was not due for two more weeks. Ana and Mynor were celebrating at a party.
Eliel did come in second in one way. He has a four-year-old big brother.
"With this one she knows what to do already and the baby also knows what to do and it is very nice and calm and it was easy to have the baby today."
A busy year is ahead for the family.
"She says that because he is the first of the year she will celebrate every day like the first of the year."
