1 dead, 1 injured in Riviera Beach crash

Crash shut down northbound lanes of Congress Ave

RIVIERA BEACH — Police and fire-rescue crews are on the scene of a fatal accident on Congress Avenue near 45th Street.

Riviera Beach police and rescue crews were dispatched to the two-car wreck at 4707 N. Congress Ave., Cheney Way, around 8:15 a.m., according to dispatch.

The accident involved two drivers, of a red Mazda 3 and black Hyundai Accent. At least one driver was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. And one of the drivers has died, according to Riviera Beach Fire Rescue.

The accident, happened in the northbound lanes, has shut down traffic in that direction on Congress Avenue. Southbound traffic has begun moving in the far right lane.

Commuters are advised to take Australian Avenue and U.S. 1 to the east, or Interstate 95 and Military Trail to the west.
