Christmas tree made of sand: West Palm Beach puts up holiday tree made of 400 tons of sand

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, South-Florida style.

In downtown West Palm Beach, crews are working on a 35-foot holiday tree made with 400 tons of sand.

Mayor Jeri Muoio was on hand to help with the finishing touches Wednesday.

The tree, which the city hopes will become a world record, is located on the West Palm Beach Waterfront Commons Great Lawn.

It will be decorated with working lights and include a tropical theme with buoys for garland, and ornaments made up of sand stars.

If you want to see the finished product, a tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 6th, during Clematis by Night, at 7 p.m.

The city is also creating other sand sculptures for the holidays which will be located throughout downtown.
