Deputies investigate shooting of child, woman in suburban West Palm Beach

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Deputies are investigating the shooting Thursday evening of a child and an adult woman in suburban West Palm Beach, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Two adults and a child were traveling westbound on Southern Boulevard in a silver four-door Chevy when a small vehicle with dark-tinted windows drove by their vehicle and shot them numerous times, Barbera said.

The female driver and a child sitting in the back seat were wounded. The other adult passenger in the car was not injured, Barbera said.

She said the driver drove to the intersection of Jog and Belvedere roads to get help from a deputy in the area.

The girl, believed to be between the ages of 8 and 10, and the woman were flown by Trauma Hawk to St. Mary's Medical Center, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

Both victims were conscious and talking when rescue crews and detectives arrived on scene. Both are expected to survive, Barbera said.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Southern Boulevard and Jog Road shortly after 7 p.m., or who knows anything about the shooting, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
