Developer agrees to scale back size of controversial West Palm Beach condominium project, mayor says.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The developers of a controversial condominium project on Flagler Drive have agreed to scale back its size, Mayor Jeri Muoio told WPTV NewsChannel 5 on Wednesday.
The condominiums, which developers have said would be built on the site of Chapel-by-the-Lake, would be about 20 percent smaller than first proposed, Muoio said.
Two new designs were expected to be submitted to City Hall for review.
The multi-million dollar condominium would have fewer units -- 76 instead of 96, Muoio said.
Developers would build a narrower, 25-story building angled to preserve views of the Intracoastal Waterway or a wider, 22-story building, she said.
"I think they've made a lot of changes. I think they're a lot closer to it than they were," Muoio told WPTV NewsChannel 5. "Whether it does the trick, I don't know. But, I think they're a lot closer."
The developer was expected to submit the new designs to City Hall as early as this month.
