Bryan Kummerlen approved as new West Palm Beach police chief

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The West Palm Beach City Commission has approved Bryan Kummerlen as the city’s new police chief.

Chief Kummerlen said he’s excited about the position and can't wait to serve the community.

He replaces Vincent Demasi who resigned in March.

Chief Kummerlen has been with the department for 26 years.  He said he always wanted to be a police officer and better his community.  "Vince Demasi did a very good job for the year and a half he was here. He pointed out some things we need to improve on and he also verified some of the things that we're doing good. But it's always good. If you have the people inside, that's usually the best way to do it."

Chief Kummerlen said he’s going to continue Demasi's RIP program which is designed to build bridges with the community.

He said he'll also work on getting new officers hired.
