'Boombox Bill': Bill 634 would ban people from playing music heard 25 feet from their vehicle

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- The so-called "Boombox Bill," goes before the Florida Criminal Justice Committee Monday.

Senate Bill 634 would ban people from playing music loud enough to be heard 25 feet away from the car you're in.

A similar bill became law several years ago, but last year the Florida Supreme Court ruled that parts of the law were unconstitutional.

That law didn't have a 25 feet rule, but instead said sounds couldn't be "louder than necessary for the convenient hearing by persons inside the vehicle" when near a church, school or hospital.

The new proposal doesn't create standards for places, and simply sticks to a 25 feet rule.

If the bill becomes law, it would become effective July 1.
